In the wake of the surprising success of the recent F1 film, which earned a nomination for Best Picture at the Oscars, there’s been a surge of interest surrounding the possibility of a sequel. Fans are buzzing with anticipation, eager to learn if another installment is on the horizon. Luckily, Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali and Apple executive Eddy Cue have provided some insight into this exciting prospect.
During a recent press event hosted by Apple TV, Cue addressed the burning question that many viewers are asking: "Is there going to be another Formula 1 movie after the remarkable reception of the first?" His enthusiasm was palpable as he engaged in a live discussion with Domenicali.
Domenicali offered a glimmer of hope for fans yearning for more. He replied, "Stay tuned. We’re going to share more information in the future. Never say never. We just need to fully appreciate the success of this film, as it was something truly special. If we do decide to make a new movie, it needs to be incredibly good. Therefore, even if plans are in motion, it won’t be released next year. However, perhaps when we gather here again at this press day next year, we’ll have further announcements to make."
Cue took the opportunity to highlight Apple’s current involvement with Formula 1, ensuring that fans have something to look forward to in the meantime. "I’ve got an exciting announcement! This year, Apple TV will feature 24 F1 movies," he revealed, drawing a parallel between these films and the thrilling races scheduled for the season. “I don’t know how it all ends, making it the most exhilarating unscripted drama imaginable!"
Reflecting on the initial film, Domenicali recalled the pivotal moment in February 2021 when Cue, director Joseph Kosinski, and producer Jerry Bruckheimer visited his office to discuss their visionary concept. While he was intrigued, he also felt a sense of responsibility to create an authentic portrayal of the F1 world within the Hollywood framework. "It was vital for us to ensure that we could authentically present our realm in this cinematic context," he noted, emphasizing that they succeeded in delivering an incredible experience for both F1 and Apple.
With the first film's impressive track record, it seems likely that a sequel is indeed on the way. The film, launched in June 2025, has already established itself as Apple TV’s top-grossing project, raking in around $630 million worldwide. Furthermore, it stands as Brad Pitt’s highest-grossing movie to date and is the most financially successful sports film ever made. It’s hard to imagine that either Apple or F1 executives would overlook the lucrative potential of another installment. However, fans will have to wait and see how long it takes for a follow-up to materialize.
For those interested, the original F1 film is currently available for streaming on Apple TV+.
